Our coaches are a critical component of our high-quality training at SPEED Institute. All of our trainers have many years of experience working with athletes and are dedicated to helping each athlete reach their potential.
Marcel Daane, BHS, CSCS, ACE-AFS – Head Coach
Marcel has a Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Complementary Medicine coupled with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Nutrition and 15 yrs. of experience in the performance coaching field. His credentials also include: NSCA Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist, an ACE “Gold” Certified Advanced Fitness Specialist, ACE certified Mat Pilates instructor, AFPA Sports conditioning specialist, “Master Trainer” for Freemotion Sports, IDEA International Fitness Presenter, and an American Red Cross First Aid CPR Instructor. Marcel is also a lecturer for the Singapore Sports Council’s Sports Medicine and Sports Science Centre which is responsible for standardization and education of the Singapore Fitness Industry.
Stacey Schwarz, MBA, BSC, CSCS
Stacey holds an MBA as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Management and is also currently completing a B.Sc in Sports Science and Nutrition. Stacey is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and certified as a fitness trainer by the Fitness Institute of Australia. Stacey has worked successfully as a trainer in Singapore for several years. She was first able to combine her love of fitness and her skills in business working in international marketing with Reebok in Tokyo, Japan.
Edward Thomson, MEd (coursework), BA
Eddie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education, specializing in physiology, from Chico State University and has a completed his course work for a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology. He is a certified Personal Trainer with ISSA.
In 1996 he was the assistant football coach for California State University’s football team helping them to win the NCAA Conference Championships. In 2004, Eddie was the National Defense/Special Teams coach for the British National American Football team and helped them to win against France during the World Cup. Eddie has worked with professional, collegiate, and amateur athletes in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan.
Josh Nobles, BSc, CSCS - Performance Coach
Josh has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Kinesiology, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.
Prior to coming to Singapore, Josh worked in the Performance Conditioning Field in San Diego where he specialised in sports performance and sport rehabilitation for both beginning and professional athletes from many sport disciplines.
Currently Josh is the Head Athletic Trainer at the Singapore American School.
Ursula Pong, MSc, BEd (Phys.Ed) - Performance Coach
Ursula has a Bachelor of Education Degree in Physical Education and Special Education from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Science Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from the Buffalo State University.
Ursula has been teaching physical education since 1988.
Currently, she is a Physical Education teacher at the Singapore American School’s High School, where she teaches Fitness, Nutrition, and Strength Conditioning.
Ursula is also an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Faculty Member.
